Seek His Face

-
Some relevant passages of Scripture that give us a Spiritual sketch of
what Christianity is all about.
-
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings
and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is
better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For
rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as
iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD,
he hath also rejected thee from being king. And Saul said unto Samuel,
I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and
thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Now therefore,
I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship
the LORD. And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou
hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from
being king over Israel. And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid
hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. And Samuel said unto him,
The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given
it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou. And also the
Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man,
that he should repent.
-
(1 Samuel 15:22-29)
-
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing
I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil,
and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided
me a king among his sons. And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it,
he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say,
I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and
I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him
whom I name unto thee.
-
(1 Samuel 16:1-3)
-
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said
unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. And Samuel said unto Jesse,
Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the
youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse,
Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he
sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of
a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and
anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came
upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
-
(1 Samuel 16:10-13)
-
And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel,
all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard of it,
and went out against them. And the Philistines came and spread themselves
in the valley of Rephaim. And David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go
up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand?
And the LORD said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand.
So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David
said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking
forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and
they were burned with fire. And the Philistines yet again spread themselves
abroad in the valley. Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said
unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them
over against the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when thou shalt hear
a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou
shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the
host of the Philistines. David therefore did as God commanded him: and
they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. And the
fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of
him upon all nations.
-
(1 Chronicles 14:8-17)
-
We see here that David communed with God. This concerned worldly events.
-
-
So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that
David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings
before God. And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings
and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a
loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.
And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark
of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
-
(1 Chronicles 16:1-4)
-
Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD
into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. Give thanks unto the LORD, call
upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing
psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory
ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember
his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments
of his mouth;
-
(1 Chronicles 16:7-12)
-
He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded
to a thousand generations; Even of the covenant which he made with
Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac; And hath confirmed the same to Jacob
for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, Saying,
Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;
When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it. And when
they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another
people; He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for
their sakes, Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets
no harm. Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day
his salvation. Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works
among all nations. For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised:
he also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the
people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Glory and honour
are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. Give
unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and
strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name:
bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty
of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable,
that it be not moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice:
and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. Let the sea
roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is
therein. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the
LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth. O give thanks unto the LORD;
for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. And say
ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver
us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and
glory in thy praise. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever
and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.

(1 Chronicles 16:14-36)

-
Is this just ecstasy of emotions, or reality of what the Lord can do through
us?
-
-
Here it is again:
-
Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory
and strength.
-
(1 Chronicles 16:28)
-
Can we, His servants, give the LORD strength on this earth through the
indwelling Holy Spirit who is God?

The following event happened while this teaching was in preparation:
-
As a result of a kitchen accident we needed a new glass casserole dish
and on going to the supermarket found a "bargain". When trying to pay for
it, it was found that the price was almost double that quoted on the shelf.
Amidst a lot of confusion and finger-pointing at each other by staff-members,
we walked out with the dish at the cheaper price.
-
We had got our "bargain".
-
However after cogitating over it during the night it became clear that
we had "got away with it" because of someone's bungling in the shop.
-
Next morning, on opening the Bible at the daily New Testament reading,
the Holy Spirit gave confirmation of what had to be done:
-
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
-
(Romans 12:1-2)
-
Then, going back to 1 Chronicles, this passage came alive, relevant to
this worldly episode:
-
Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among
the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous
works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek
the LORD. Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. Remember
his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments
of his mouth;
-
(1 Chronicles 16:8-12)
-
Glory to the Living God who cares for me!
-
-
This insignificant event will surely be an opportunity to let some in the
supermarket see the hand of God in a believer's life.

On going back repeatedly to the following passage over a period of a week
or two, it became clear that this is the principle of the Christian - the
Way of Christ Jesus:
-
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
-
(Romans 12:1-2)
-
Study it carefully, ponder upon all aspects until you understand it and
are prepared to follow it, as doing it in loving obedience will probably
save your life.

Christianity is free, but there is a price to pay.

Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren,
and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an
house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool
of our God, and had made ready for the building: But God said unto me,
Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been
a man of war, and hast shed blood. Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose
me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for
he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah,
the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to
make me king over all Israel: And of all my sons, (for the LORD
hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the
throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. And he said unto me, Solomon
thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to
be my son, and I will be his father. Moreover I will establish his
kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments,
as at this day. Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation
of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the
commandments of the LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land,
and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for
ever. And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve
him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth
all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if
thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him,
he will cast thee off for ever. Take heed now; for the LORD hath chosen
thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.

(1 Chronicles 28:2-10)

-
Each must choose.
-
-
You see, God loves you and me, He made each of us in His image.
-
-
God is Perfect. He has to be or He couldn't be God.
-
-
God is righteous. . . . God is Holy. . . . God gets the glory.
-
-
Everything that was, is and shall be is for God's glory!
-
-
For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die
unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
